THE 21- YEAR- OLD girl raped by five youth in Ghaziabad on Sunday hasn't come forward to be identified by the police.
Ghaziabad SSP Rabhubir Lal said the police were trying to get in touch with her, but were treading cautiously as the girl must be traumatised and could resort to extreme measures.
Asked whether Krishna Singh, who had reported the incident, had revealed anything about her whereabouts, Lal said: " We are not pressuring him either. We are taking it one step at a time. The victim should testify against the culprits so that they do not get advantage in the legal course." Krishna, the son of an engineer, had lodged a complaint about the rape on Saturday.
He told the police that he and the girl were passing by the human resource development office in Kamla Nehru Nagar late on Saturday when the gang stopped his bike.
He said two youngsters tied him up and beat him unconscious.
They also took away his cellphone, a laptop and ` 450.
Krishna claimed he saw a man sexually assaulting the girl in a nearby field before he passed out.
Based on the physical description Krishna provided, the police arrested one Monu who is said to have confessed to the crime. The information provided by Monu led to the arrest of his brother Tonu, Devendra Singh, Jai Kishore Singh alias Jackey and Manoj -- all residents of Raheespur.
The victim, said to be an accountant at a Noida showroom, got acquainted to Krishna over the internet and met him in person for the first time on Saturday in Noida. The pair was on its way to Ghaziabad when she was raped.
Krishna could not be contacted.
His mother said he was too traumatised to talk. " He has been crying since yesterday.
We are trying to console him but he is blaming himself for the whole thing," she said.
Krishna suffered injuries to his neck, face and abdomen.
The goons allegedly knifed him.
The five accused have denied involvement in the act. Devendra said Krishna had not identified him. " He denied before the SSP that he saw me there.
I was far away watering my mustard fields and only heard their cries. They picked me up from my house," he said.
